A clinical driver evaluation assists to determine an individual’s skill set to operate a motor vehicle. This includes testing the areas of cognition, vision/visual perceptual,

and physical abilities. Standardized evaluations are conducted to ensure objective

measurements are related to the activity of driving.

A behind-the-wheel evaluation is conducted in Drive Well Michigan’s dual controlled automobile on a dedicated route that includes all roadways (parking lot to highway). Scoring is related to performance on a numerical scale.  

Most primary insurance carriers (Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, etc.) do not view driving as a medical necessity. Our company does not have the ability to bill electronically or use the billing forms required by major insurance carriers.

Exceptions include open claims on an Auto-No Fault Insurer or a Worker’s Compensation Insurer. If someone is enrolled into Michigan Rehabilitation Services or Michigan Bureau of Services for Blind Persons, there may be funding available for the tests. This would need to be confirmed with a person’s counselor or case manager.

Yes, if you require the behind-the-wheel evaluation. We cannot take anyone out on the road without either a valid Michigan Drive’s License or a valid Temporary Instructional Permit. You can be seen for a clinical evaluation without an existing driver’s license or permit.

Yes we do. As part of the clinical and behind-the-wheel evaluations, we are able to

determine the equipment needs. Our training vehicle has the ability to install equipment identified during the evaluation to determine a person’s fitness to drive with after market products.

Completing both the clinical and behind-the-wheel portions of the evaluation on the same day takes between 2-3 hours. The clinical evaluation takes approximately

2 hours and the behind-the-wheel takes 1 hour.

We accept checks, cash, and credit/debit cards in person. We accept credit/debit payments online as well.
