A spinner knob and tri pin are both types of adaptive steering equipment. They are used to aid those who have limited upper extremity mobility or one arm.
The accelerator, brakes, and functions such as the indicator and lights can all be converted into hand controls for those with lower extremity mobility concerns. These can be in the form of buttons, knobs, and levers.
Side entrance vans are installed for those who will be transferring into the vehicle while remaining in their wheelchair
The accelerator and brakes can be moved and accessed by the left leg for those who have mobility concerns with their right leg.
For those who will be driving from their wheelchair, the drivers seat can be removed and an EZ lock break will be installed to secure the wheelchair while operating the vehicle.
Adaptive seats can be installed to aid in entering, exiting and transferring in and out of the vehicle. They are able to turn, lower, and rise to meet the mobility needs of the client.
Ramps can be installed to allow for increased independence in transferring into the vehicle. Often this modification is remote operated with a click of a button.
Minivans are a common selection for an adaptive vehicle as they are very spacious, but adaptions can be made to newer, more sleek vehicles, such as the Volkswagen Golf.
